\"It's My Birthday\" (originally \"Birthday\") is a song by American rapper will.i.am featuring American singer Cody Wise. The song was recorded in 2014 and released as a single in Australia on May 27. The song is about celebrating every day as if it's your birthday. The song samples the Indian song \"Urvasi Urvasi\" from the soundtrack of the 1994 Indian film Kadhalan, composed by the Academy award winner and Indian composer A. R. Rahman. The song also includes samples of the Jamaican track \"Fi Di Jockey\" by Aidonia and Bounty Killer. It received mixed to negative reviews from music critics, with some being negative towards will.i.am's lack of originality.
\"It's My Birthday\" is a hip hop track that includes usage of Auto-Tune.[5][6] will.i.am explained the meaning of it during a web exclusive for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 29, 2014 where he was joined by Wise, saying: \"You get a license to do whatever you want on your birthday. I try to live in that celebrative, who-gives-a-f perspective and celebrate every day as if it was my birthday.\"[7] The song uses a sample of composer A. R. Rahman's track \"Urvasi Urvasi\", from the soundtrack of the 1994 Tamil film Kadhalan, for both its intro and outro.[7] A. R. Rahman revealed on May 21 via Twitter that he was partnering with will.i.am to recreate an early track of his, with will.i.am tweeting out thanks to Rahman the next day.[8] will.i.am spoke about the process of sampling \"Urvasi Urvasi\" as part of the web exclusive on July 29, saying \"We took portions of that song and put it over today's thick, urban electronic-type beat.\"[7] The song contains an additional sample of the Jamaican track \"Fi Di Jockey\" by Aidonia and Bounty Killer, with vocals from Aidonia sampled on the chorus and Bounty Killer's chanting of his \"Big Ship Sailing\" catchphrase also sampled in the song.[5]
\"It's My Birthday\" received mixed to negative reviews from music critics, with will.i.am's lack of originality being mostly panned. Lewis Corner of Digital Spy gave the song three out of five stars, stating: \"The final result doesn't wander too far away from his recent successful offerings, but with a hint of the new here and there, will.i.am proves once again he can have his cake and eat it whether it's his birthday or not.\"[14] Christina Lee of Idolator wrote that \"it's rather telling that not even the most bizarre parts of 'It's My Birthday' can distract from the cringeworthy lyrics ('Que bonita, que bonita / I can speak in Japanese / Kawaii, kawaii / Kawaii, I want your body').\"[15] RouteNote author RouteBot labelled the song as the worst of 2014, writing: \"I actually thought that English was the performers second language, but then I realised it was Will.i.am! Terrible! What the hell has happened to pop music...\"[16] Trevor Smith of HotNewHipHop wrote in response to the song: \"The rapper/producer channels Bollywood on his new cut, which is more a showcase of Cody Wise's vocals than Will's. It also features some instrumental breaks, placing it firmly in more of an EDM sphere.\"[17]
The music video was uploaded to YouTube on May 28, 2014, shot in the square aspect ratio of software Vine and directed by Ben Mor.[18] It was uploaded to Vine the next day as over 40 separate clips.[18] The video, which utilizes claymation, features both will.i.am and Wise.[6][19][15] Its scenes include a birthday party going wrong, twerking in a room decorated with pizzas and will.i.am posing as a priest and as Jesus.[15] He can be seen at one point in the delivery room taking a selfie while a woman gives birth to a will.i.am lookalike.[15] Popular Viners such as Giovanni Watson, DeStorm Power, King Bach, Alpha Cat and Jerry Purdrank also appear.[20]
Molly Carpenter and Harry Dresden have just returned from battling slime demons and are cleaning things off. Before driving his apprentice home Dresden decides to bring Thomas Raith the birthday gift he's bought for him. Molly admits she knows they are half-brothers.
Happy Birthday, Deb! Glad to see you can celebrate safefly this year. I will be 71 and awfully glad to be almost 3 years NED. Quiet celebration here, no family around. Dinner will be at my favorite restaurant who has an ourdoor patio. Happy birthday to all of the September ladies!
Reality: Vanilla, for sure. No, chocolate. No wait, vanilla. Can we have both Okay, we can do a fruitcake. Wait no, vanilla. But what if I want chocolate Ugh, fine. Two birthday cakes.
There are 4 specific questions I ask myself to deepen my learning and grow my understanding of myself. Every birthday, I take out my journal and write my answers down. And every birthday, I learn something new about myself and feel a little more cheerful and grateful. Here are the 4 questions you should answer in your birthday journal.
I am very sorry Lin! I want to wish you a Happy Birthday. I will be turning 50 soon. In the past I have spent many birthdays alone. Treat yourself to some cake. Get some wine. Try and pamper yourself. Sometimes life can be tough. Be kind to yourself.
I was sad to read your comment but also happy because I am experiencing the exact same thing. I moved away from all my friends and family last year and I am used to big birthdays but this year I feel so alone. I related to your post heavily.
I feel alone on my birthday and during the other regular days too.I have no expectations for birthdays, just feel a generalized sense of sadness. I feel like listening to cold play and old 2000s sad songs. Crying feels good sometimes.
Tomorrow is my birthday and I feel myself angrier than ever. I never liked this day even as a child, but things have gone from bad to worse over the last years. I feel myself like if I wanted to die at once. I cannot cope with this misery.
The last bit made me feel a little better. only one person other than my sister said happy birthday. everything else feels like theyre just reciting lines, cause they have to. no one feels genuine and i hate getting attention even though i want it.
I really hate the attention on my birthday, but I also am hurt when people I naturally put effort into, don't reciprocate my efforts. I know I need to lower my expectations but I find it so inherently natural to be kind and give everything to my friends and family, that it always leads me to getting upset when I don't get the same treatment.
Thank you for this post! This really shifted my perspective on my birthday. I often feel not valuable and so I do not like being celebrated, but the journaling questions especially helped me reflect on who I am/what I have accomplished.
Thank you for explaining why I feel this way. I moved to the UK nearly 4yrs ago and hardly made any friends. not much family members just my husband. He is supportive. Actually, he is starting to annoy me as he is keen on celebrating my birthday which is today btw but I just feel like staying at home, work on my business plan and organise some bits.
My birthday is tomorrow, sep 8, and honestly im not really happy or excited about it. im not even looking forward to it. my friends and family are more excited than i am. i dont know why im sad, or feeling really super duper down when thinking of my birthday, and its not even about aging. a month ago i was so excited to finally turn 16 but now, i just feel like its worthless to throw or celebrate a party for my birthday. its just me after all. its not a big deal. having a birthday feels like i just completed a really hard level, and moving on to the next hard one.
Thank you Vanessa, my birthday is in a few days and I was really beginning to feel the anxiety and just general malignant feelings I have around my birthday. These feelings are augmented tenfold this year because Covid-19 means the only person I actually want to spend it with (my girlfriend) is unreachable due to travel restrictions.
For work, I bring in donuts for everyone and let them know I brought them in to celebrate my birthday. This is a pretty common gesture at many workplaces in the Midwest US. Alternatives are cupcakes, bagels, cake, a fruit or veggie tray, or any other snack type thing that can be shared.
There are lots of ways to let people know that your birthday is coming up or is occurring. I'm a big fan of birthdays, regardless of their importance. My son's first birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm already telling people about it.
Alternately, ask people when their birthday is... usually they'll ask you when yours is and you can tell them. If they don't really care, they likely won't ask... so you're not forcing the information on them.
If you really want to share the information with other people, there are a myriad of ways. Heck, I bet even asking this question made some people wonder when your birthday is... So, I'm going to go out on a limb and say
For example, if I forgot someone's name/birthday, I find a way to insert the topic of photos into the conversation. Then, move onto my terrible driver's license photo, which I show, often to their \"it's great\" reply. This usually brings people to show me theirs, like a commiseration of sorts. I use the opportunity to remind myself of their name or birthday.
In case you don't have them on social networks and for notifying to the coworkers. There is an informal group chat for coworkers If a friend wishes you a happy birthday in that group, everybody will do the same only for being polite.
You can ask others to donate some old stuff like clothes or books and organise a charity on your birthday. People may ask why you are organising it and you can tell that you want to do some good on your birthday.
BTW, it's not important to tell everyone about your birthday unless they are someone important and special, and you want them with you that day. In this case, you can say it without any special effects that it's your birthday on ...
In old days where people still used email as the primary means of digital communication, some people implied their birthday at their email address (e.g. donaldo_clinton_12_19@XYZ which someone may get December 19th is his/her birthday). Nowadays messaging apps are more prevalent, so people won't bother to care about others' email as they were, but nothing would prevent you from hinting it at your email. 59ce067264
