An epic hero is not perfect or immortal, but he is a sort of superhuman. He is larger-than-life in the sense that his qualities exceed those of regular humans. For example, an epic hero will have extraordinary strength. Beowulf displays this best when he fights Grendel and rips his arm from his body. Grendel is an imposing beast who has already easily destroyed a number of men, including warriors who are strong and experienced fighters. Beowulf's feat in killing Grendel perfectly displays how his physical strength sets him apart from others.
An epic hero is, in short, the hero of an epic. An epic is a story, usually a poem, where a character goes on a quest. There are some characteristics that an epic hero often has. You can read about them in my first link. Here are some ways Beowulf is an epic hero.

A hero can be defined in many different ways. Some of the characteristics heroes often possess include bravery, strength, persistence, and loyalty. In the poem Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, is a Scandinavian prince who embodies many of these heroic qualities. Beowulf is a poem that was written anonymously between the 8th and the early 11th centuries; this was a time when the Anglo-Saxons ruled most of Northern Europe. Beowulf is about a man who sails to Denmark to fight Grendel, a monster who has been slaughtering the people of Denmark for many years. Throughout the poem, Beowulf demonstrates many of the true characteristics of an epic hero. He displays bravery, loyalty, and persistence as he takes on many battles.
Two of the most obvious characteristics of epic poetry are its length and narrative quality. Unlike lyric poems, which can be short reflections on a single object or person, epic poems are quite long -- often the length of a novel -- and they present a narrative or story that features many objects and characters.
Such a block has not been memorized, but the alliteration serves not only to knit separate parts of the first line together but also, by carrying over to the beginning of the second line, to link the two lines into a memorable couplet. I do not intend to imply that the Alliterative Morte Arthure is an oral traditional poem. Such constructions, however, do point to the fact that many of the characteristics of oral poetry can be found in it. This fact has already been abundantly documented by scholars from Ronald A. Waldron to Jean Ritzke-Rutherford and Valerie Krishna. [14]
The pagan elements in the epic poem Beowulf are evident in the characters superhuman personifications. ... Many of the characters exhibit Christian characteristics. ... In mixing Christian and pagan ideas, the poet of Beowulf was able to emphasize the morals of his time and to enhance his characters with Christian values and pagan legends. In the final analysis it seems to me that the Christian elements do dominate the poem. At nearly every turn the narrator is asking Gods blessing on the enterprise or is putting those same words into the mouths of the characters within the poem. ...
Beowulf clearly encompasses many Christian elements from characters to themes throughout the story. ... Beowulf, the character, is an attempt at adapting Jesus to the Anglo-Saxon cultural vision of a hero. ... \"The functions of fate and God seem quite parallel,\" says Klaeber in his analysis of the text .This seems to be supported by the following passages from Beowulf; \"Fate often saves the undoomed man.\" ... Thus in the final analysis, \"by the side of heathen fate is seen almighty God.\" ... Bloomfield's is a uniqueÆ'x character analysis of Unferth. ...
Beowulf and Gawain are fascinating men that display these traits. ... Beowulf is an epic poem featuring the main character, Beowulf, as an incredible hero who can defeat anyone to keep his people safe. ... This shows Beowulf's unwavering bravery and strength. ... Beowulf had more of an influence with supernatural powers, because both of the main characters possessed them. ... The analysis of the two epic's shows that Beowulf is by far the more intriguing and better hero. ... 153554b96e
